Production Measurement Guide
🎯 Accurate Measurements for Custom Manufacturing
Use professional-grade fabric measuring tape and wear properly fitted foundation garments for precise measurement capture essential for our made-to-order production process.
Bust Measurement
Position: Stand straight with arms relaxed at sides
Placement: Wrap measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, across the nipple line
Level Check: Ensure tape is parallel to floor all around your body
Tension: Keep tape snug but not tight - you should be able to slide one finger underneath
Waist Measurement
Find Natural Waist: Bend to one side - the crease that forms is your natural waistline
Position: Wrap tape around this narrowest part of your torso
Posture: Stand naturally - don't suck in or push out your stomach
Fit: Tape should sit comfortably against skin without cutting in
Hip Measurement
Location: Find the fullest part of your hips and buttocks (typically 7-9 inches below natural waist)
Positioning: Wrap tape around fullest part of hips and buttocks
Level: Ensure tape is parallel to the floor
Stance: Stand with feet together for most accurate measurement
Essential Measuring Equipment
Flexible Measuring Tape
Professional-grade fabric measuring tape, not rigid measuring tools
Reference Mirror
Full-length mirror ensures accurate tape positioning and level measurement
Base Layer Garments
Wear properly fitted foundation garments for precise measurement capture
Fit Styles Explained
🏭 Manufacturing Considerations
Different dress silhouettes require specific production techniques and sizing specifications. Understanding these helps ensure proper fit and customer satisfaction.
🅰️A-Line Dresses
Fitted through bodice and waist, gradually flares toward hem creating an "A" shape
Bust and waist measurements are critical for construction. Hip measurement less crucial due to flared design
Forgiving style for various body types. If between sizes, prioritize bust and waist measurements for pattern grading
🌸Fit and Flare
Similar to A-line but with more defined waist and dramatic flare starting at waist or below
Precise bust and waist measurements essential for fitted bodice construction. Flared skirt accommodates various hip sizes
Fitted bodice requires accurate upper body measurements for proper construction tolerances
📏Sheath Dresses
Straight, narrow cut that follows body's natural lines without significant waist definition
All measurements (bust, waist, hip) equally important as garment follows body closely during construction
Less forgiving than A-line styles. Consider fabric stretch properties and wearing allowance when grading
🔄Wrap Dresses
Front closure formed by wrapping one side across the other, typically secured at waist
Bust measurement crucial for proper coverage. Waist measurement determines optimal tie placement
Adjustable nature provides flexibility in fit. Consider bust support requirements during construction
👑Empire Waist
High waistline positioned just below bust, with flowing skirt that skims the body
Bust measurement most critical for bodice construction. Empire waist sits above natural waistline
Forgiving for various body types. Focus on proper bust fit and comfortable under-bust band construction
🎯Bodycon/Fitted
Form-fitting throughout, designed to contour every curve
All measurements critical for construction. Fabric stretch properties significantly impact manufacturing specifications
Least forgiving style requiring precise measurements. Consider fabric stretch percentage and construction tolerances
Production Sizing Guidelines
For Fitted Styles
(Sheath, Bodycon): Choose based on largest measurement and consider fabric stretch properties for grading
For Flared Styles
(A-line, Fit and Flare): Prioritize bust and waist measurements for construction, as flare accommodates hip variations
For Adjustable Styles
(Wrap Dresses): Focus on bust measurement for coverage and construction comfort with adjustable elements
